Despite all of the talk about HTC's next flagship model, dubbed the "The All New HTC One," the company is struggling right now. On Monday morning local time, Taiwan based HTC announced that sales had dropped 36.5% in February on a year-over-year basis. Consolidated revenue of $7.2 billion NT ($238 million USD) was the lowest revenue reported by the manufacturer for any February since 2007.
Foir the first two months of the year, HTC reported revenue of $16.9 billion NT ($557 million USD) which was down 37.2% from the $26.9 billion NT ($888 million USD) that HTC reported for the first two months of last year. This report is not terribly surprising since last month the manufacturer's CFO Chang Chia-lin said that January through March would be the low point of the year for HTC, with subsequent quarters showing sequential increases in revenue and profits.
On March 25th, the company will introduce its new flagship model and the hope is that the addition of a faster processor, second rear camera sensor and a microSD slot will allow The All New HTC One to present more of a challenge to the Samsung Galaxy S5 than the HTC One did to the Samsung Galaxy S4.
